SCOUTING REPORT

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY
Runcruit
Last updated: July 22, 2026

Overview

SC State is building from the lower half of the MEAC in cross country while showing more competitive upside in track and field, especially where event-specific strength can swing conference scoring. Its women’s program has shown clear value in jumps, and its men’s program has recently pushed toward the top of the conference through field-event production and broader balance. Across both programs, SC State is currently recruiting to raise its floor in distance and add more reliable conference scorers in sprint and field-event areas that can stabilize team finishes.

SC State’s men have the strongest current momentum on the roster, with track and field moving from the back of the conference into contention behind throws, improved jumps, and a more competitive overall lineup. The distance side remains the clearest gap, with men’s cross country and distance results trailing the conference standard, so the Bulldogs are actively adding 800 meters through 5000 meters runners who can contribute in both cross country and track. At the same time, SC State is continuing to recruit impact long jump, triple jump, and 400 meters athletes to preserve the event groups that are helping it score consistently in the MEAC.

SC State’s women have been more uneven, with cross country remaining a conference weakness and track and field depending heavily on jumps to create scoring opportunities. The women’s jumps group stands out as a genuine program strength, while sprint depth has not consistently matched that level and the distance group still needs more front-end conference competitiveness. With an upcoming loss in the sprint group, SC State is reinforcing women’s 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, hurdles, and long jump/triple jump recruiting so it can protect its best scoring areas while lifting its overall team standing.

SC State is currently looking for immediate MEAC scorers rather than purely developmental prospects, especially on the men’s side in jumps, 400 meters, and throws support, and on the women’s side in jumps and sprint events. It is also prioritizing foundational distance recruits for both men and women, with the men’s 800 meters to 5000 meters range carrying the most urgency because of the need to improve both cross country and distance scoring. Overall, SC State is recruiting versatile athletes who can double across events and strengthen conference meet depth, with women’s sprints and both programs’ distance groups receiving the most active attention.
