SCOUTING REPORT

PURDUE UNIVERSITY

Last updated: July 22, 2026

Overview

Purdue is operating as a strong Big Ten program with its clearest current identity on the men’s side, where track and field and cross country consistently stay competitive across multiple event areas, while the women’s side is recruiting more aggressively to raise its conference impact. Across the program, Purdue is emphasizing proven Division I-caliber athletes in speed, power, and distance, with especially assertive standards in men’s throws and sprints and in women’s sprints/hurdles, and it is pairing that approach with targeted replenishment in event groups facing meaningful upcoming roster turnover.

Purdue’s men are built around a balanced Big Ten profile: cross country and distance remain reliable conference scorers, but the biggest track strength is in the power events, especially throws and jumps, with sprints/hurdles also functioning as a major scoring lane. The Boilermakers are now replacing an outgoing elite distance contributor across both track and cross country, so the men’s side is actively reloading 5000 meters/3000 meters strength and middle-distance support while continuing to chase high-end sprinters, hurdlers, and throwers who can help Purdue hold its standing in the conference and stay relevant nationally.

Purdue’s women are recruiting with the most urgency in sprints/hurdles, where the standards are especially ambitious and the upcoming loss of multiple highly rated athletes creates immediate demand for impact newcomers, while distance also needs reinforcement because of substantial outgoing experience across track and cross country. Jumps and throws remain important secondary areas, with pole vault, long jump, and shot put standing out as events where Purdue is still seeking athletes capable of moving the program upward in the Big Ten.

Purdue is currently looking for immediate contributors rather than long-term projects, especially athletes who already profile as Big Ten scorers or near-scorers in men’s throws, men’s sprints/hurdles, men’s distance, women’s sprints/hurdles, and women’s distance. On the men’s side it is prioritizing 5000 meters, 3000 meters, 400 meters, 200 meters, high jump, long jump, shot put, and discus, while on the women’s side it is targeting 100 meters, 200 meters, 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, 1500 meters, 5000 meters, pole vault, long jump, and shot put to stabilize depth and add top-end conference scoring potential.
