SCOUTING REPORT
OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Overview
Oklahoma State is operating as a national-caliber distance program with its clearest identity in cross country and endurance events, while its broader track profile is more uneven across the Big 12. The Cowboys and Cowgirls consistently compete from a position of strength in distance, and the recruiting approach reflects that by pursuing elite-level middle-distance, distance, and cross country talent while also using selective additions in speed, jumps, and throws to raise team scoring balance at the conference level.
Men's Program Pro
Oklahoma State’s men are anchored by one of the premier distance groups in Division I, with men’s cross country established at the front of both the Big 12 and the national picture and the track distance squad remaining a perennial conference force. With a large pending loss of high-end distance talent, the Cowboys are urgently reloading in the 1500 meters, 5000 meters, 10,000 meters, and cross country pipeline, while also continuing to strengthen the 400 meters and hurdle events to improve overall conference team scoring; jumps remain a secondary but useful support area, especially in high jump and pole vault.
Women's Program Pro
Oklahoma State’s women have a strong national ceiling built around distance, with women’s cross country and the distance squad regularly giving the Cowgirls a high-impact scoring core, while throws have recently provided meaningful conference value and the rest of the roster has been more mixed. An upcoming elite departure in distance keeps the 800 meters, 1500 meters, 5000 meters, and cross country stream as the top priority, but Oklahoma State is also actively reinforcing the 400 meters and sprint hurdles for balance and is maintaining attention on discus, shot put, and high jump where added points can elevate the team in the Big 12.
Current Recruiting Outlook Pro
Oklahoma State is currently looking most aggressively for elite distance recruits on both sides who can sustain its cross country identity and immediately contribute in the 800 meters through 10,000 meters, with the men’s side especially focused on replacing major outgoing depth. It is also recruiting complementary men’s 400-meter and hurdle athletes, women’s 400-meter and hurdle athletes, and women’s throws contributors, while being more selective in jumps and event-specific developmental pieces that can convert into conference scoring.
