Mississippi Valley State is recruiting broad-based SWAC contributors, with the strongest current push toward women’s sprints-hurdles and men’s sprints-jumps, plus needed distance depth on both sides.

SCOUTING REPORT

MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY
Runcruit
Last updated: July 22, 2026

Overview

Mississippi Valley State is competing in the SWAC with a broad-access recruiting profile, and its current roster-building approach is centered more on adding functional depth and event coverage than on chasing nationally elite specialists. The clearest emphasis sits in sprint-oriented track recruiting, especially on the women’s side, while distance standards remain very open for both cross country and track, signaling that the program is actively building participation and scoring options in those areas to strengthen its conference standing.

Mississippi Valley State’s men’s program is most established in the middle tier of the SWAC, with its track identity leaning toward sprints and jumps while distance remains a developmental area across both cross country and track. The Delta Devils are currently valuing men who can contribute in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, long jump, and triple jump, while also bringing in 800 meters and cross country recruits who can help raise depth and create more complete conference meet coverage.

Mississippi Valley State’s women’s program is currently placing its strongest recruiting emphasis on sprint and hurdle talent, where its standards show the most intent and where immediate conference-impact athletes can move the program forward fastest. At the same time, the program is still building out women’s distance and jumps depth, so recruits in the 800 meters, cross country, and horizontal jumps can find real opportunity to earn roles and help stabilize event-group coverage.

Mississippi Valley State is currently looking for accessible but conference-ready athletes who can score in the SWAC rather than purely developmental prospects, with the highest urgency centered on women’s hurdles and quarter-milers, plus men’s 400-meter, short sprint, and horizontal jump recruits. It is also actively adding men’s and women’s distance runners for cross country, the 800 meters, and related endurance events, using those additions to improve roster balance and maintain viable scoring pathways across championship meets.
