SCOUTING REPORT

CALVIN UNIVERSITY

Last updated: July 22, 2026

Overview

Calvin is operating like one of Division III’s more ambitious programs, pairing high-end recruiting expectations with recent conference-winning form and a major rise on the women’s national track side. In the MIAA, its track and cross country programs consistently contend near the top, with the women especially looking like a polished, nationally relevant group and the men maintaining a strong conference identity. As a high-academic Division III program, Calvin is looking for recruits who can handle both a demanding academic environment and immediate championship-level contribution potential.

Calvin’s men’s side is built around a strong conference track foundation and a distance group that has recently been central to both cross country and track success, even as cross country has cooled from its earlier league-leading run. The men’s track program remains a conference standard because it is getting broad support from jumps, throws, and sprint depth, while the distance squad still matters but is no longer carrying the entire profile by itself. With an upcoming loss in men’s distance and only limited sprint turnover, Calvin is continuing to push hard for impact 800 meters, 1500 meters, 3000 meters, and 5000 meters recruits while also staying aggressive in high jump, long jump, discus, and javelin to preserve its league-winning balance.

Calvin’s women have become the headline program, combining conference-title consistency with a sharp national rise in track and field and a cross country team that remains a regular upper-tier MIAA presence. Its current strength is the breadth of the roster: sprints/hurdles, jumps, throws, and distance all score well enough to support championship-level team finishes, with the sprint-jump core standing out as especially aggressive in recruiting profile. Because an outgoing elite women’s distance athlete is creating a meaningful gap in both cross country and track, Calvin is now reinforcing 1500 meters, 3000 meters, 5000 meters, and 800 meters while still pursuing high-level 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, and discus recruits to keep the national-caliber team structure intact.

Calvin is currently recruiting as a conference-title defender that is also protecting national upside, so it is prioritizing athletes who can score quickly rather than long-term developmental projects alone. On the men’s side, it is emphasizing distance reinforcements first, then maintaining elite standards in jumps and key power events; on the women’s side, it is reloading distance after a major pending departure while continuing to chase top-tier sprint, hurdle, jump, and throw talent that can sustain its MIAA control and Division III relevance. Across both programs, Calvin is looking for academically strong Division III recruits with true championship scoring potential in the 1500 meters/3000 meters range, relays and open sprints, horizontal and vertical jumps, and the top throwing events.
