SCOUTING REPORT

TRUMAN STATE UNIVERSITY
Runcruit
Last updated: July 22, 2026

Overview

Truman State sits in the middle tier of the GLVC overall, but its profile is clearly defined: the Bulldogs are strongest when building around distance on the women’s side and throws on the men’s side, with cross country and track form pointing to targeted event-group recruiting rather than a broad roster overhaul. Its standards show a moderate Division II recruiting posture overall, so Truman State is balancing developmental prospects with a need for a few immediate conference scorers who can raise event-group depth where the program has recently lagged.

Truman State’s men are anchored by a solid cross country and distance foundation plus a reliable throws group, while sprints and jumps remain the clearest places to add conference-impact talent. In cross country, the program has shown it can compete near the front of the GLVC, so it is continuing to look for 5000 meters and 3000 meters/1500 meters recruits who can support both XC and track scoring; on the track side, throws remains a priority because an upcoming loss removes a major contributor, especially in discus and shot put, while sprint recruiting is also becoming important to lift a group that has not matched the team’s stronger event areas.

Truman State’s women are built most convincingly around distance, where the program has remained one of the better GLVC units, and that strength should continue to shape both cross country and track recruiting. The Bulldogs are also actively addressing sprint depth after an outgoing high-level sprint/hurdles athlete, especially in the 400 meters and hurdles, while the field events look more like selective add-on opportunities than the core of the roster build despite a need to replace an upcoming jumper.

Truman State is currently looking for women who can score in cross country, the 1500 meters, 5000 meters, and 800 meters, plus a versatile 400/400 hurdles type who can stabilize sprint points; on the men’s side, it is pursuing throwers who can contribute quickly in discus and shot put, along with distance runners who can help both cross country and the 1500 meters/5000 meters pipeline. The program is also adding developmental men’s sprinters and jumpers, but its most urgent work is reinforcing men’s throws and distance depth while preserving the women’s distance advantage and replacing key outgoing sprint production.
