SCOUTING REPORT
BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Overview
Boise State is built around distance strength, with its women’s cross country and women’s track programs operating near the top of the Mountain West and its men’s distance side consistently giving the Broncos a competitive foundation across cross country and track. The clearest program identity is endurance first, while men’s jumps and women’s throws have become important support areas that raise team ceilings; by contrast, both sprint groups remain more developmental and are being recruited more selectively only in targeted events rather than as broad roster priorities.
Men's Program Pro
On the men’s side, Boise State is sustaining a strong distance culture, with cross country regularly contending near the front of the conference and the track distance group remaining one of its most reliable scoring units, so it is actively pursuing 800 meters, 1500 meters, and 3000/5000 meters recruits who can contribute quickly. Men’s jumps have also emerged as a meaningful strength and are being reinforced, especially in the horizontal jumps, while the upcoming loss of quality jump and distance talent makes those areas immediate needs; sprints and hurdles are being addressed more selectively, with the hurdles standing out as the event family where Boise State is pushing hardest for impact additions.
Women's Program Pro
The women’s side is the flagship of Boise State’s combined program profile, with cross country established as a conference frontrunner and the track team rising behind elite distance scoring and a strong throws group, so the Broncos are continuing to chase high-end distance recruits who fit both cross country and track. The upcoming departure of a premier women’s distance athlete creates an immediate need for another front-line 800 meters, 1500 meters, and 3000/5000 meters contributor, while throws remain a major emphasis for maintaining conference contention; women’s sprints, hurdles, and jumps are still being upgraded, but those groups are being recruited more as complementary support for the team title push than as the core identity of the program.
Current Recruiting Outlook Pro
Boise State is currently looking for difference-makers in women’s distance, women’s throws, men’s distance, and men’s horizontal jumps, with added urgency created by upcoming losses in both distance groups and in the men’s jumps corps. It is also targeting event-specific sprint and hurdle recruits who can patch scoring gaps rather than overhaul the roster, especially men’s hurdles and women’s 400 meters/400 hurdles profiles, while the overall recruiting approach is clearly centered on athletes capable of elevating conference scoring and, on the women’s distance side, sustaining national-level relevance.
